Rainie
Rainie's (Formerly Dakotah) Story |
Information provided by Sonnya Crawford: Dakotah, a 3-year-old female, was an owner-surrender to a Western- Washington humane society, where Katie Cole picked her up. Laurie Adomite is fostering Dakotah at her home. Dakotah is a beautiful liver and tan female. It is amazing to have such an emotionally solid, well-mannered dog placed in rescue. We hope that she will do well in whatever family she ultimately finds. Rainie update from her new Mom: I always think new names and beginnings go well together. Rainie is the name I have chosen for Dakotah's new beginning with me. I met Sonnya and Tim in Tacoma for the hand-off of Rainie. She had been in the runs and fostered by the Crawford's. I believe it was hard on all three of them for her to come to me and I worried that I would provide enough of what she needed. I found myself questioning did I have what it would take to do right by this girl. What I found is a wonderful girl that is helping me as much and I'm helping her. Rainie is a beautiful and gentle soul. Her calm nature and good manners resulted into really rapid transition into my home and heart. She spends her days relaxing on my sofa listening to the TV or Radio. Each workday I look forward to coming home at lunch to let her out to potty and play with her and each day I wish I could stay home and hang out with her. I have two cats and I'm quite sure Jesse and Maggie said, "s#$%! She's bringing another damn dog home! Why does she keep bringing them home with her!?" They are two wonderfully loving and friendly cats and through all of the foster dogs they're developing really good dog skills! Within the first four hours at my home Maggie and Rainie came nose to nose in the bathroom and both girls were completely wonderful. Rainie gave Maggie a great big slup and Maggie stood up and leaned into Rainie's face. I smiled a giant ear to ear smile! One introduction done and one to go! I remember thinking how easy that introduction was. As I continue to read my foster journal I remembered that Rainie, Maggie, Jesse and I were all snuggled onto the sofa watching television the fourth evening in my home - all together peacefully! It had taken me weeks and months with other dogs and Rainie fit like she'd been here her whole life! Rainie has fabulous house manners, has chewed on the appropriate things (even when I've messed up and provided the opportunity to chew on wrong things!), and our areas to work on are learning to play with toys, lessening her sensitivity to loud noises, fast hand and rapid body movements. She has learned that I'm not going to hit her but is still wary of rapid hand and body movements of people she doesn't know. I'm quite sure that someone in her past beat her. I'm having a blast spoiling her. She's developing lots of doggie friends and playmates, she loves going with me, and dog classes are no longer scary but seen as opportunity to meet new people and other dogs. As I write this I hear her gentle snoring coming from my bedroom. Proud new adoptive mom to Rainie! Laurie
