Cassie
Cassie's Story |
Information provided by Sonnya Crawford: In May we received another 2-year-old spayed female bloodhound, "Cassie" who came from a breeder that "bred police dogs" and was sent to Alaska to do police work. She didn’t have the temperament to be a police dog; therefore she was given to a family in Alaska. Cassie was cared for and walked by the 8-yearold girl in the family and the girl ended up being drug down the street. Because of this incident, Cassie was released to the local veterinarian, Dr. Hill, for euthanasia. Dr. Hill called PRBC Rescue and told us "I looked into those eyes and just couldn’t give her the needle." Dr. Hill and the local police department arranged to have Cassie flown to Seattle where Rescue picked her up. Cassie came in with no health problems, but many emotional scars. She is an extremely timid bloodhound, and is very fearful of men. In less then 2 weeks, she had been in 5 different "homes", including 2 veterinary clinics, and had flown from Alaska to Seattle. This was a lot of stress for so timid a hound. She will need a lot of time and patience to gain some confidence and feel secure. Cassie now has her forever home. She was placed recently with Tiana and Tyler Morton and their chocolate lab "Angus". Tiana and Tyler have the patience needed to help Cassie overcome her fears and gain confidence. Here is the latest update from her new mom (04-11-2007):
Cassie has come such a long way over the past year.
It took time for Cassie to adapt to living stable with a family who
loves her so much. Tyler & myself always felt that she was thinking
where am I going next. Well, she is not going anywhere. It took
some time for Tyler to get close to her as she had a trust issue with
men. Now you can't tear those 2 away from eachother. When he gets
home from work she is so excited to see her daddy. I should also add
she now deals well with any male that comes in her path.
To start we already had a Doberman/Lab mix named Angus (6 years old). Angus was an only pet and too had a hard time letting another dog (female on top of that) into his family. Now those 2 are the
best of friends. They have a routine around 5pm every night they
have what we call "Go time." Those two tease, chase and roll around
in the grass together. They crack us up.
Cassie is doing well and we feel very lucky to have found her. Thank you to Pacific Rim Bloodhound (Sonya & Suzi). If it weren't for you all we wouldn't have our princess. Tiana Previous Update: Well, I just wanted to let you all know that Cassie is adjusting very well here. Her and Angus were a little rocky when we got home last Sunday but they are the best of buds now. Believe it or not her and Tyler have bonded. She let’s him lay with her on the floor and cuddle up to her. She seems very comfortable with her new home and we reassure her everyday that this is her home and she isn’t going anywhere. We are very pleased with the progress. There is still more that needs to be worked on (couch sitting, jumping on me and the other small commands...come, sit) :-) But we will get there. We have been working with the 2 dogs all week long and feel very pleased with the outcomes we are seeing.
